Dear P.S. 135Q Families,

Our school counselor, Ms. Arduini, is a dedicated educator trained in child development, learning strategies, self-management, and social skills. She works closely with school staff, administration, and families to deliver programs and activities that support student success.

Ms. Arduini also partners with teachers and parents on the early identification and intervention of students' academic and social-emotional needs—an essential part of removing barriers to learning and helping students develop the skills and behaviors necessary for academic achievement.

In addition to her counseling role, Ms. Arduini serves as our Respect for All Liaison, Suicide Prevention Liaison, and Mandated Reporting Liaison. She also leads the Middle School Application Process for 5th-grade families and is an active member of both the Attendance Team and the MTSS Team.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s social-emotional or academic well-being, please call the school at 718-464-2119 to speak with Ms. Arduini.

Character Education at 135

At P.S. 135, we are committed to nurturing strong character and social-emotional growth in our students. We use the Cloud9World elementary program to deepen students' understanding and practice of distinct character strengths.

Through a dynamic combination of books, video books, videos, interactive games, and activities,Cloud9World creates an engaging environment for character development. The program not only enhances academic performance but also fosters emotional and social intelligence by weaving key values and character strengths into the daily curriculum.

Some of the character traits students explore include:

  • Courage, Cooperation, Honesty, Humbleness, Unity, Forgiveness, Individuality, Kindness, Creativity, Patience, and more.

Each month, we celebrate students who exemplify the featured trait during our Character Education Awards Assembly. Students are nominated by their teachers for actively demonstrating the monthly trait in their daily interactions.

At P.S. 135, the physical and emotional safety of all students is our priority. Please click the links below for more information on DOE policies, Chancellor’s Regulations, and available support services:

School Counseling Updates

To help our K-5 students build character, we use a program called Cloud 9 World.

Each month we focus on learning about a particular character trait and we conclude the month with a virtual Character Education awards assembly, where we recognize students who have been nominated by their teachers for actively demonstrating the trait of the month. We will begin virtual award assemblies in October.

Our Character trait of the Month for September 2021 is SOLIDARITY. Our classes will focus on learning about what solidarity means and how people can show solidarity. We encourage parents/guardians to use the at-home resources from the Cloud 9 website to reinforce these traits throughout the school year.

Log-in information has been posted to Class Dojo for P.S. 135 parents/guardians (K-5).
