Your child’s class might visit the library once a week for a read aloud or short lesson and to check out books. Depending on your child’s grade level, library lessons may include literacy instruction accompanied with a short activity, book talks or recommendations, internet resources, research strategies, digital citizenship and cyberbullying, location skills-how to find things in the library, author studies, genre studies, plus much, much more!
Kids are expected to bring their books with them every week on their library day. They may either return their books or renew them (check them out again.) Books are always due one week from the checkout date, however, our library is always open and kids are welcome to visit the library to exchange their books at any time with teacher permission.
In the event that your child’s book is lost or damaged beyond repair, you will be responsible for replacing the book to maintain our collection for all the students of the school.
Parents are encouraged to get a public library card for use at their local library.
In addition, it is strongly recommended that you build a library of books at home for your child. We hold two annual book fairs in which your child will have the opportunity to purchase books at a discounted price in addition to NOT being charged sales tax. Our first book fair will begin on November 5th during Parent Teacher Conferences. Students will be coming home with flier and a calendar detailing the event. I will also preview some of the books through book talks and trailers. We welcome you to The Bellaire School Library……..Where Books Open a World of Possible!
